How freight fraud actually worksWhat it checks
A neutral tier on every broker row, and behind it the line of public record it came from — with the FMCSA values on screen and the date we pulled them.
Being wrong about a real broker is the expensive failure, so that’s where the work goes. A brokerage arm that posts from its parent group’s domain. A firm whose email domain is built from its initials. One that spells a word in its own name with a digit. All three shapes used to read as a domain mismatch. None of them do now.
The same broker and carrier signals are available as an API for factors, insurers and 3PLs.
What leaves your browser — and what never does.
- Only the broker identifier. The company name, one contact, the MC once you expand a load, and any contact address written into the comments.
- Never your load data. Not the rate, not the lane, not your search. We don’t store or resell DAT’s load data.
- Fails quiet. If a lookup is slow or down the badge just doesn’t appear. It never blocks or delays a row.
- The Gmail layer is opt‑in and minimal. Off by default; sender domain and link hostnames only.
We will never call anyone a scammer. Every line is a fact about a public record with a source and a date next to it. What it means for your load is your call.
That isn’t a tone preference. The obvious flag to build is “this MC isn’t in the broker census” — we built it, then turned it off, because MCs go missing from that census for ordinary reasons. Same reason a posted name that doesn’t match the MC’s FMCSA name is only ever Caution on its own: brokers rename, get acquired, and post under a DBA.
Anyone we flag can contest it on a public form, no account, reviewed by a person — and reported contacts get the same review before they ever move a badge.
When a posting borrows a real broker’s name, that broker is the victim. The reusable part is the phone number, the email, the domain that was one letter off — so that is what you report.
It goes to a queue and a person reads it. Nothing you report moves a badge until an operator approves it. Once approved it matches that contact exactly, so the company whose identity was borrowed is never flagged by it — we tell them it happened instead.
After a load, one tap logs how it actually went: paid fine, slow pay, didn’t pay, double‑brokered, couldn’t reach. Private, never attached to your name, and used to work out which signals are worth showing at all. It is not a review site and it will not become one.
The reported-contact list is small and deliberately slow to grow — every entry costs a person’s review. This works to the extent that dispatchers report the thing that burned them.

Carrier badges on the equipment board
are not part of Pro and are not switched on in any build we ship. The carrier signals behind
them are reachable over the API above. Cancelling is
self‑serve: “Manage billing” in the extension opens the Stripe portal —
change your card, pull invoices, or cancel, without emailing anyone.
Paid plans are started from the extension itself: install it, sign in free, then upgrade from
the popup — that way the subscription lands on your account.

No. If our lookup is slow or down, the badge just doesn’t appear — it never blocks or delays a row. We’d rather show you nothing than cost you a load.
