Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of LaneScout, a product of M8 LLC (“LaneScout,” “we,” “us”). By installing or using the LaneScout Chrome extension or creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use LaneScout. See also our Privacy Policy.

1. What LaneScout is

LaneScout is a browser extension that reads the broker information already displayed on the DAT One load board in your browser and overlays risk signals derived from a periodically refreshed mirror of public data published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Optional features include account sign-in, community reports, outcome logging, watched-broker change alerts, and AI-generated summaries.

2. The nature of the signals — important

Every LaneScout signal is a verifiable, factual statement derived from public records (for example, “authority granted within the last 12 months,” or “posting phone does not match the FMCSA record”). LaneScout does not label any person or company a fraud, scammer, or wrongdoer, and its risk tiers (clear / caution / high risk) are neutral summaries of those factual signals, not conclusions about anyone’s conduct or character.

The signals are informational decision aids only. FMCSA data is mirrored periodically and may be incomplete or out of date; the detail panel shows the date the data was pulled. You are solely responsible for your own booking and business decisions, and you should independently verify any signal before relying on it. LaneScout is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by DAT Solutions LLC or the FMCSA.

3. Accounts and eligibility

Some features require an account. You must be at least 18 years old and use LaneScout for legitimate business purposes. You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Provide accurate information and keep it current.

4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

• Plans. LaneScout offers a free tier and paid plans (for example, Pro and Team, with Team billed per seat). Current pricing is shown in the product at the time you subscribe.
• Billing. Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring monthly basis (or yearly, for Mail Guard’s yearly plan) through our payment processor and automatically renew each period until canceled.
• Cancel anytime. You can cancel or change your subscription yourself at any time from the billing portal (the “Manage billing” option). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.
• Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where required by law. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial periods.
• Price changes. We may change prices; we will give you reasonable advance notice, and changes apply to billing periods after the notice.
• Taxes. Stated prices are exclusive of any applicable taxes, which you are responsible for where they apply.

4A. LaneScout Mail Guard (for companies)

Mail Guard is a service a company turns on for its own Google Workspace: it checks the email of the mailboxes the company chooses, labels what raises signals, and — unless the company switches them off — files notes into flagged conversations and has an AI analyst read the emails described in our Privacy Policy.

• Who agrees. Whoever signs a company up accepts these Terms on the company’s behalf and confirms they may do so. The company is responsible for authorizing Mail Guard in its Google Admin console, for choosing the mailboxes it protects and the people who administer it, and for any notice to, or consent from, its own staff that the law or its own policies require. Mail Guard processes the company’s email on the company’s instructions and for no other purpose.
• What a finding is. Section 2 applies in full: Mail Guard reports factual signals — what an email’s headers, links, attachments and history show, and what the analyst quotes from it — never a conclusion about any person or company. The checks and the analyst can miss an email that is not what it seems and can flag one that is genuine. Mail Guard is an aid to your own controls, not a replacement for them: confirm any change of payment details or contacts by phone, on a number you already have, before acting on it.
• Plans. Mail Guard is priced per protected mailbox — monthly, or yearly at a lower monthly rate, as shown in the product when you subscribe — with a minimum of three mailboxes; the AI analyst is included. The number of mailboxes you subscribe for is the number you may protect; you can change it in the billing portal.
• Free trial. A company that signs itself up gets a free trial (currently 14 days, up to 10 mailboxes, no payment details), which starts when protection starts. When it ends, protection pauses until the company subscribes. Nothing is deleted when protection pauses.
• Fair use. The analyst’s email reviews are subject to a reasonable daily allowance, pooled across the company, and it answers up to 50 questions per person per day; beyond these, the checks keep running on every email. We may adjust these limits with notice.
• Ending. If a subscription ends or payment fails after the payment processor’s retries, protection pauses. The company can remove Mail Guard’s authorization in its Admin console at any time, and can ask us to delete everything Mail Guard stored for it.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• store, resell, redistribute, or scrape DAT’s load data, or use LaneScout to do so;
• use LaneScout to harass, defame, or intimidate any person or business, or in any unlawful manner;
• violate the terms of service of DAT One or any other site you use LaneScout alongside;
• attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to LaneScout or its infrastructure, or circumvent usage limits;
• submit reports you know to be false, or misuse the community reporting feature.

6. Community reports and user submissions

If you submit a community report or outcome, you represent that it is truthful and made in good faith. Reports are moderated before they can affect any badge. You grant us a license to use submissions to operate and improve the service. We may remove submissions or suspend accounts that misuse these features. Brokers may contest a signal through our dispute process.

7. Intellectual property

LaneScout, its software, and its branding are owned by M8 LLC and are licensed to you, not sold. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the extension for its intended purpose. Public FMCSA data is not owned by us.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

LaneScout is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or reliability of the signals or data. We do not warrant that LaneScout will be uninterrupted or error-free.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, M8 LLC and its owners, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost business, or lost data, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) LaneScout, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to LaneScout will not exceed the greater of the amounts you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or US $100.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless M8 LLC from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of LaneScout, your submissions, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using LaneScout and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the service or comply with law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7–10) will survive.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Illinois for any dispute not subject to arbitration or small-claims resolution.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms; the “Last updated” date above will change, and material changes will be noted in the extension’s changelog. Your continued use of LaneScout after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
